When a guy from Tasmania decides to randomly go for hike in Kakadu you have to realise that this guy is keen. I mean, I do feel that the NT and Tassie are similar in many ways but the weather is not one of them. I guess having cycled from Darwin to Broome, and then cycled back along the Gibb I’ve seen my share of hot weather – but this was different. The time of day, combined with the humidity meant that walking in to this spot was intense. Also, I was heading down to the falls with a friend and the camera was an afterthought. I had the camera and a tripod strapped around my neck whilst I carried the picnic basket and I swear we had enough food for the week! I have since learnt that bags are the way to go for these types of spontaneous adventures.
In the end it was all worth it, perhaps I am being a bit dramatic. We didn’t see another soul for the entire day, just the peaceful sounds of a gentle waterfall and each others company. Motorcar falls is less popular than the majority of falls in Kakadu, nevertheless it is a pleasant attraction well worth checking out.
